Taking A Step Back From Social Media To See The Bigger Picture

These past 7 months, I have been so focused on social media to promote my fundraiser for MS Run The US. I've posted weekly training updates, shared some pretty personal feelings, and not left a lot unsaid. It's been both exhilarating and exhausting. It's often left me wondering how do those people who post or blog everyday DO THIS? Gosh. I'm posting 5 days a week on my blog (most weeks), several times a week on Twitter/ Facebook/ Instagram and it really takes A LOT of time. Sure, when it's your full-time job it's probably easier, but still it is sometimes mentally challenging. It's come to a point where I feel like I'm invested TOO MUCH in social media, so I'm taking a break. I'm going to take a step back from Facebook and Instagram and Twitter (I'll still be blogging because I LOVE it) to see the bigger picture.

I want to experience more things in the moment rather than thinking "gee I need to be sharing THIS on Instagram or I've got to make sure my posts are linking to Facebook or wonder what my "friends" are doing this weekend". I want to fully enjoy things as they happen. I really love how social media gives me that platform to reflect on a previous workout or follow my training, but that's also why I have my BLOG!

I'm not really sure how long my break will be. Maybe it will last a week, a month, or maybe I'll find life is greener on the other side. I'm hoping to replace my time that I normally spent on social media accomplishing other things. I would really like to take up meditating and also do more yoga.

So, who knows what will come of my break, but I'll make sure to share my thoughts and experiences (good AND bad) over here because who knows - maybe it will inspire you to do something similar as well!

It will be challenging, but oftentimes I think that I've learned the most about myself when I've made it through a trying time. What do you think?

What's something you've found out about yourself during a challenging time?

What's one thing that is currently in your life that maybe affects it negatively or takes way from your "real life"?

Have a great weekend!
