RW Run Streak

Taking a brief break from #TravelThursday because I wanted to share with you all about my RW Run Streak!

I originally heard about doing a Run Streak (where you run atleast a mile, everyday, for however long you want), by listening to a Human Race podcast (sadly they discontinued this!!)- the woman had been doing a run streak FOR YEARS. Even through such life-alterating events like chemo, surgery, and giving birth, she stuck with her run streak (she set a goal of running 3 miles minimum everyday). I was so inspired by her story and always kept the idea of starting a run streak in the back of my mind, but the thought always lingered- "could I really do it WITHOUT getting burnt-out or injured"?

Fast-forward to last Tuesday, when Runners World announced their 40-day Run Streak. Running each day from Thanksgiving to New Years Day. I was sick, hadn't run for over 8 days, signed up for Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving and impulsively joined this Runners World Run Streak Facebook group. It was then that I became so INSPIRED by ALL THE RUNNERS in this group! It was amazing. So many posts about completing their day #x with x amount of miles, inspiring stories, and paces of all abilities. I decided to just plunge into it because I was missing running and needing something to work towards until it was time for me to start my next training plan.

So, now I've been running for 8 days straight and how do I feel? AMAZING! I love to run! I've kept my paces super conservative as I dive back into running from my days off after the marathon and just embraced exploring new trails I haven't been on before (as well as running during all different times of the day).

Here is my run-down of the last 8 days of running:

  • Day 1: 4.1 miles with .5 warm-up, 5K Turkey Trot (3.1 miles), .5 cool-down
  • Day 2: 3.5 miles on the trails with Stella
  • Day 3: 4.75 miles on some rolling hills in the early afternoon
  • Day 4: 10 trail miles around the entire Stagecoach Lake
  • Day 5: 4 miles early AM with a headlamp
  • Day 6: 2.5 miles after work with Stella
  • Day 7: 5 miles on the treadmill
  • Day 8: 3.5 miles after work with Stella

So will I stop my Run Streak after 40 days or will I somehow take it further and maybe add a fun challenge for my MS Run The US fundraiser - no one knows! Here's to the next 40 days (and maybe more)!

Ever thought of doing a run streak?
