MS Mondays- A 5K!

April 09, 2018 by Stacy McAllister in MS Mondays, MS Run The US

I hope you guys had a great weekend! Mine was so relaxing and filled with lots of kitten cuddles/ popcorn consumed/ and caramel M&Ms (if you haven't tried them...you really should)! We watched Finding Dory Friday night and it was soo cute. I finished another book (book review coming Friday!), to make 3 books read for the year thus far and did a bunch of Spring cleaning (while it was snowing out ; ) ...) Make sure to check back tomorrow to see 5 photos from my weekend- you definitely don't want to miss them!

PS I'm officially less than 43 days away from the start of my RELAY! Also less than 2 weeks until the Salt Lake City Marathon! I cannot believe it's coming up so quickly.

I've been so busy the past few weeks that I forget to promote the 5K that I'm hosting here at Stagecoach State Park on Saturday, May 12th at 10am! I'm also hosting a VIRTUAL OPTION so you can run anywhere and still participate! 100% of the proceeds from the 5k will go to my MS Run The US fundraiser and we've got an amazing wooden finishers medal for all those who sign-up before May 10th!

YOU CAN REGISTER AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THE 5K BY GOING HERE.

How was your weekend?! Top memory from the weekend? --> Having enough time to not only clean and organize and read a book, but also relax!

One thing that you're doing today to make tomorrow better? --> Getting some finalized details done for my 5k!

MS Mondays- In The News!

April 02, 2018 by Stacy McAllister in MS Mondays

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! I finished out peak week feeling strong and ready for the taper! I don't cut-back on my mileage too much (~55 miles per week), but I no longer have any long runs and only 2 speedwork sessions per week with the rest as easy miles. I'm really trying now to focus on my recovery/ strength training/ foam rolling etc. since I've got extra time!

I wanted to share with you the article from The Summit Daily News that came out on Saturday. You can find the link to the article HERE.

I've found that one of the best ways to spread the word about my fundraiser and get donations is to get as many interviews as possible! I will be running through Summit County on my relay run, so contacted them about a month to let them know about my relay run!

MS Mondays- Learn More About MS Run The US!

March 26, 2018 by Stacy McAllister in MS Mondays, MS Run The US

Happy Monday friends! It's amazing how much better I felt today compared to other weekends when I had to work Saturday & Sunday (I had the weekend off from teaching skiing)! Having the weekend to do chores/ cook for the week ahead/ relax was amazing! This morning I've got one of three BIG TEMPO runs ahead of me- 10 miles at tempo with 1.5 mile warm-up and cool-down. This week is my LAST peak week before I cut-back a bit before the Salt Lake CIty Marathon! I can't believe it's coming up so quickly.

This week I wanted to share with you a video about MS Run The US! Did you know that it starts at 18 different cities throughout the US every year?! YOU could be the next relay runner for MS Run The US and pledge to make a difference for those affected by MS. Check out the video below and see more about the organization here.

How great is this saying below? Anyone else feel like mentality is everything? I noticed a HUGE difference in my outlook during races/ training/ life when I was 'in it' for the mental game and had high mental confidence.

How was your weekend?!

What are you training for right now?

One thing you enjoyed most about your weekend --> prepping every meal we'll have this week and staying up late/ sleeping in a bit (with no agenda when I woke up)!

Have a great Monday and go kick some butt!

MS Mondays- Complementary & Alternative Medicines for MS

March 19, 2018 by Stacy McAllister in MS Mondays

Happy Monday all! I hope you had a weekend full of fun activities! TODAY IS THE LAST DAY OF OFFICIAL WINTER! I cannot believe tomorrow will be Spring. I cannot wait! Also how crazy is it that we only have less than 2 weeks of March left?!? Anyone else feel like this month just flew by? I cannot wait to run outside in shorts & a t-shirt. I'm already convinced that it will feel absolutely amazing.

It's another MS Monday over here and I wanted to share with you some complementary & alternative medicines for MS that I found here on the National MS Society website.

These therapies have undergone very little (or sometimes none) research to back-up their effectiveness, so they should be taken with caution, but I'm the type of person that believes that trying things with open arms can be beneficial (or maybe not so much). It is always best to consult your physician if you do have MS and would like to explore alternative or complementary treatments.

Here are a few examples of the complementary/ alternative medicines that are listed on the National MS Society:

  • Food & Diet
  • Exercise
  • Stress Management
  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic Therapy
  • Marijuana
  • Massage & Bodywork
  •  Low-Dose Naltrexone

It's also recommended to supplement your prescribed treatment with alternative or complementary treatments, while also keeping a detailed log of your feelings/ symptoms everyday.

What are your thoughts on alternative medicine or complementary treatment options for ms or some other illness?

How was your weekend? <-- Worked both Saturday & Sunday...soooo...pretty uneventful unfortunately

What's one thing you ate this weekend & completely LOVED? <--Trader Joe's Chocolate Coconut Covered Almonds. so good.

MS Mondays- Symptoms of MS via VIDEOS!

March 12, 2018 by Stacy McAllister in MS Mondays

Happy Monday!! I hope you have something really fun scheduled for today to make it a little less painful to come back from the weekend. I taught skiing both days this weekend, so it went by pretty quickly (and at least I got to spend it outside!). I hope yours was a little bit more relaxing, but that you got just as much fresh air as I did!

I wanted to share with you a few videos that I came across on youtube of others who actually describe their early MS symptoms. These videos are so powerful and I am in awe of those who are so open to sharing their story. I truly believe that the more AWARENESS that we can bring to the disease--> the better! So, enjoy : ) THere's also a bunch more on the right-hand side que, incase you've got time to spare.

Paul's Story. He has a few more on his page that are fantastic and open.

Izzy's Story. Gosh this one was definitely emotional. She was a runner and describes herself as the 'fittest' that she's ever been before starting to getting some pretty drastic MS symptoms..

Rhian's description is super honest and straightforward. She started having symptoms in her late teens and early 20's. So young!

Jack's story. I love how he speaks about how scary his diagnosis of MS was and also what a shock it was.

How was your weekend?

This videos are so inspiring to me to run and fundraise LIKE CRAZY! I definitely think I will be watching these as I get ready to head out for my runs during my MS Run The US relay run.

I'm totally loving youtube right now- what videos could you watch over and over again? --> So You Think You Can Dance videos!
