10 Things And A Race Recap- Wedding Updates, REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS, This Was A Bummer

I’m BACK. Momentarily. Well, now maybe i’ll be back a bit longer since our campus is switching to online classes after Spring Break next week. So I’ll have a bunch more time since I don’t have to drive everywhere. Maybe, just maybe I’ll be back on here more often? Maybe I’ll just be CRUSHING MORE PR’s- Like what I did at the Hamptons Half Marathon last weekend. My race recap is HERE.

We’re deep into the Wedding planning over here. So far, I’ve fallen in love with my Brunch (the morning after) outfit. Also obsessed with my awesome haircut by Sara Ghelfi (Lotus Organic Hair Studio in North Conway for any locals out there!).

Also got all of my earrings for the Wedding weekend- including these for the actual Wedding day!

It’s been a heat-wave here (or well, maybe our thermometer no longer works/ is in the direct sun….yeah I think that’s much more realistic). Ha.

I got to go skiing!!! ONE DAY THIS WHOLE SEASON. WOW. Remember when I used to go like three times a week? Yeah…

IMG_6369.JPG

I think I already announced this on here, but I got in the Mt. Washington Road Race again! YAY to running up crazy-steep mountains.

IMG_6433.jpg

I’m trying to swim one time per week and it’s still so hard. Convinced that swimmers are the real deal athletes.

IMG_6444.JPG

I rewarded myself yesterday with an Iced Coffee and donut yesterday. Good thing that Stella ate my donut for me before I could have a bite……

IMG_6507.JPG

I’m in my Labor & Delivery clinical (hoping we can still go since classes are online after Spring Break) and so far, haven’t been able to catch any babies!!! I HAVE been able to hold a 31 week old little nugget, which was literally life-changing. I cannot believe that I graduate in August?!?!?

IMG_6508.JPG

And some of the BIGGEST NEWS YET!!! So excited to announce that I’m part of the Brooks Run Happy Team for 2020! Can’t wait to help spread my love for Brooks Running this year.

Anyone have any Wedding suggestions for me?!? I NEED YOUR TIPS!

Favorite Brooks Running outfit?

Anyone else a Nurse that loved their L & D rotation? I’M OBSESSED.

7 Things

-10* out yesterday morning = Freezing cold run. I have no idea how I ran 6 miles in it, but I did 🥶

IMG_6293.jpeg

Saturday morning I started my day off with yoga and animals. Also I had my coffee to help kickstart the day

IMG_6284.jpeg

Also a good part of my weekend included studying and snuggles.

IMG_6280.jpeg

Sunday morning my skaters had their first competition! They collected some golds, silvers, & bronzes. Also 5 year olds in rhinestone dresses skating might just be the cutest thing ever. Also pretty sure my toes are still frozen.

IMG_6294.jpeg

I never thought that running at 5am would be something that I’d do consistently, but here we are. Getting up & getting it done is the best way to ensure that I’ll actually get my run in.

IMG_6290.jpeg

2 snow days from school on Thursday & Friday should have meant that I would get a bunch of things done, but in reality-> I mainly spent my days going to the gym, running, studying, oh and watched Taylor Swift’s documentary on Netflix. I normally don’t like those types of things, but I did really like it! Seeing things from their perspective helps you appreciate their lifestyle a bit more.

Also very thankful to have my long runs on Mondays right now (it’s my only day off from school)- it feels good to look back on my week on Saturdays and remember that the big work has already been done ✅

How was your weekend?

When do you normally get your long runs in?

What’s the weather where you are right now?

I'm BACK TO DO IT AGAIN.

You know those things where you’re thinking to yourself ‘gee, well I MIGHT be a bit crazy, but 'WHY NOT?!?’’ - that’s me most of the time. Ha. And I suppose this latest new goal basically solidifies my craziness.

I’ve signed up for a 100 miler on August 14th, 2020. And my big goal? Do it in 24 hours.

Oh, and my other big goal? Fundraise some money for my favorite non-profit, MS Run The US because well, why not?

IMG_8887.JPG

Once I committed to training for my first 100 miler, I thought back to my Relay experience in 2018 and how amazing of an experience it was to run for more than just me. Running is a very selfish sport (you have to take hours upon hours to train away from your family/friends!) and running a 100 miles just because didn’t seem right to me. I wanted it to be more than just running 100 miles in 24 hours- I wanted to connect with my new community, meet others who have been impacted by MS, and draw upon these experiences during my 100 mile race.

IMG_8693.JPG

I’d love to say that my big goal is to again fundraise $10,000, but that most likely is not possible given my very busy student schedule these next 6 months (ahem- HOW is it already only 6 months away?!?). BUT I want to see if I can get to $1,000 (maybe $10 from 100 people) and who knows beyond that. I have a few different fundraising ideas and hopefully can get those in motion within the next 3-4 weeks.

IMG_8880.JPG

I have my fundraising page up here and also have a Facebook fundraiser page as well if that is easier for you to donate.

IMG_6259.JPG

Maybe you’re unable to donate, but want to help me reach my goal in another way? AWESOME! I’d love to have anyone jump in with me for a few miles (it’s a 2.6 mile loop course - race website is here), help me with my fundraising campaign (help me get the word out- share it with co-workers, friends, family members), or come support me during my race!

It also happens to start the same day that the 2020 MS Run The US Relay Team finishes the entire relay in New York City! Coincidence? Maybe. But I’ll take whatever signs I can get.

SO, that’s a new update from me and I promise I’ll start sharing my training recaps on Wednesdays beginning next week because not everyone trains for 100 miles and shares how they get it all done!

7 Things

First Saturday off in aLONG time! We were supposed to be in Vermont skiing for the day, but weather looked a bit scary (ice) for our drive home so we decided to stay in instead. We were THEN going to go ski here, but slept in until 8am?!?! I stayed up way too late watching the Ladies Figure Skating Championships the night before 😅So we started our weekend with the BEST breakfast from 27 North -> local friends you HAVE to try it! The ‘Green Monstah’ was amazing.

IMG_6199.jpeg

We then went to the Local Bookie (used bookstore) & I got 3 books for $11! Doing some light reading in my “free” time 🤓

IMG_6200.jpeg

I also found scrubs at a shoe store (Alex is looking for shoes for the Wedding) in my school uniform color (royal blue) for $13! So happy. We also did some exploring at a’new to us’ Conservation Area

IMG_6203.jpeg

I managed an 8 mile run later in the afternoon and gained 800’ in elevation- first time this hitting this much in a LONG time (remember when I used to gain something like 1,300’ in 5 miles?!? 😅)

IMG_6205.jpeg

Epsom salt baths, yogi toes, & hot nuun is still the best way to recover

IMG_6207.jpeg

I had to split up my run on Sunday because I slept in a bit too long / had to be to work at 7! So, 3 miles in the dark followed by 3 miles in the afternoon while also wearing CAPRIS! 🙌🏻 I really miss ‘winter’, but also really enjoy having bare legs in January.

IMG_6211.jpeg

I came back from my run to hear about Kobe Bryant’s passing. That really hit home for me. I definitely looked up to him and respected all that he was able to accomplish and those he was able to help/inspire off the court. Such a tragic story for all those lives lost in the crash.

Also. This ‘plant based’ protein cookie was dangerously good. Glad I don’t make getting one of these a daily habit! They’re expensive ($3!?!) 😹

IMG_6192.jpeg

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

—How was your weekend?!?

-Favorite protein cookie?

-Anyone else feel like it’s GOOD but also WRONG to wear shorts/ capris in January?

You Aren’t Always Going To Succeed.

I was recently thinking back to my previous marathon cycles and training blocks and realized how proud I was that I always managed to nab a PR. I took pride in that fact and honestly while I knew I would eventually NOT have a PR race, I also secretly kept pushing that aside. I mean- I still managed to hit a 1 minute PR in Eugene during terrible stomach issues!

IMG_3279.jpeg

Then, I had a lot of life changes/stress/goals shifted and I found myself crossing the finish line of TWO races where I did not PR. I thought I was prepared and held onto my past ‘wins’ in the PR department (so I guess you could say that I was overly confident 🤪). When I crossed both of the finish lines it was tough. I hadn’t anticipated ’failing’ as much as I had and while both had crazy weather conditions, it was mentally tough to go from ‘confident’ to ‘crushed’

IMG_5189.png

So maybe your goal was similar to mine and maybe you crushed them (YAY!) or maybe you burned (join the club!), know that it’s NORMAL to not always succeed. You won’t always come out on top (& if you are- is there a bigger goal in store for you to chase?) and that’s ok. I haven’t yet hit my ‘A’ goal in over two years, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less determined or passionate about hitting it (I’m actually MORE SO!).

  • Anyone else ever have a similar experience?!?

  • New goals that you’re chasing for the year?
