I'm Very Upset About This & It's COLD.

I just heard the news and I’m pretty upset by it.

BUT then I just saw on the news this morning that it actually isn’t until January 1, 2019 SO that’s a bit of a relief. We have definitely watched the full seasons through at least 5 times. It’s one of the best shows (in my opinion) to just have on, get a few laughs, and get some chores (or dinner or laundry) done.

Also my view while writing this post this morning is my second-favorite way to start the day (after a run ofcourse…). I’ve really been loving my Oiselle camp cup- it keeps my coffee warm in the morning when the air in our house is still a bit chilly (also sitting under the heated blanket helps keep me warm as well ; ) ) …. It looks like they discontinued the camp cup, but I’ve linked to something kind of similar!

It has been SO cold here lately. Currently 3* outside this morning. I’ve been waiting to do my runs later in the day (because I’d rather run outside than on the treadmill if I can), but it’s still only in the low 20’s later in the afternoon. We’ve also been getting some snow showers (nothing too crazy), but it sure does make the core trail look so beautiful!

Also- it’s National Cookie Day. I have to know. What cookie is your favorite?!? I love either chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip, or vanilla bean joe joe’s from trader joes (they are unbelievable- think of a golden oreo, but way better)!

Happy Colorado Gives Day! I love this state and how they dedicate a special day to support your favorite local charities. Do you have something like this where you live?

Where do most of your runs happen in the winter- outside or on the treadmill?

Have You Seen These & 2 Days Off!

Happy Monday! These weekend was honestly a bit of a blur for me. Monday came way too fast, but I’m already looking forward to next weekend (we’re getting our Christmas tree)! P.S. this post is brought to you by ample coffee this morning, Brady cuddles, and my heated blanket (the second-best way to start a workday (in my opinion) ; ) First best-way would be a run, but it was 10* out this morning and I want to get some sunshine so I’ll get it in later this afternoon.

Let’s rewind to Friday morning, where I got in my first hike UP the ski mountain (& then a ski down)! Nothing like doing a new activity to get you feeling way out of shape.

Saturday morning blueberry pancakes, bacon, and coffee : )

Saturday we were going to get our Christmas tree, but unfortunately Stella caught a stomach bug (anyone know that dogs can get these?!?). So we spent from noon Saturday until midnight taking her outside several times every hour. She was herself again on Sunday, which was relief! It is definitely no-fun to see your pets not feeling well. I got in a This Is Us binge (I’m almost all caught up and I’m kinda sad!) with some Maple cuddles.

Tried to make some cookies with gluten-free flour (that’s all they had at the store?!) and they came out like this. They still tasted so delicious, so that’s all that matters?

Made some homemade granola.

Got in a treadmill run on Saturday (it was so windy/icy/blowing snow) and then 30 minutes on Sunday.

Sunday was a crazy-busy day with teaching skiing clinics from 9am-4pm, running for 30 minutes, then teaching a skating lesson at 4:45! I got home at 6pm and Alex had tomato-beef soup waiting (he’s a keeper)!

I took Saturday & Sunday completely OFF from social media and it felt amazing. I may need to start doing this every week? Also what ones have you seen on this?

Feature Friday: Checking In On Your Monthly Goals

Happy Friday! Last day of November! How are you spending it?!? It’s been the craziest week at work (normally the week after Black Friday is…) and I’m more-than-ready for the weekend. Also cannot wait to pick up our Christmas tree! I’m so happy that running is back in my life and while my mileage is low, it feels so good to just get in a few miles most days during the week. Anyone else put up their Christmas tree yet?!?

Let’s check back on my November goals before setting new ones for December:

November Goals:

  • Purchase only needs not wants- Basically check. This is MUCH harder to do when you go on Vacation, but I really didn’t purchase anything crazy!

  • Learn how to crochet- Done!

  • Hold a plank for 4 minutes

  • Cook Thanksgiving dinner!- Check!

  • Yoga 1x/ week- Almost check. During the first two weeks leading up to the race (and being sick) didn’t have as much yoga as I would have liked (i.e. none…)

  • Take 2 FULL WEEKS OFF from running after the race in Vegas -CHECK!

  • Make a recipe from scratch- nope. but I DID cook a Turkey so that totally counts for something.

Overall, I really did great in November. Going into the end of the year, I always feel like it’s more challenging to stay accountable with your goals so happy to have hit most of them. Also feeling really excited that I’ve stuck with my end-of-the-month checkins and working towards my 2018 goals! This is the first time that I’ve ever held myself accountable for what I wanted to work on for the year and really felt like each month I was making it happen.

December goals:

  • Stay present in the moment more

  • Read 1 book

  • Purchase only needs, not wants

  • Yoga 1x / week

  • Go skiing at a new-to-me mountain

  • Skin up the mountain twice

  • Make a snowman

A Peak Into How I'll Be Training For Eugene

Happy Friday-eve! Anyone else really looking forward to the weekend? Work-weeks after a long weekend are so tough. At least we have another long-ish weekend in another few weeks for Christmas!

IMG_1243.JPG

Here’s a little preview of what my training for Eugene Marathon will look like (I’ll be following Hanson’s Marathon Method- my FAVORITE marathon training calendar):

  • I’ll begin training on December 24th (Christmas Eve) for 18 weeks!

  • I’ll peak at 64 miles and get in one 20-mile long run (I adjust Hanson’s plan a bit to make sure I get in at least one 20 mile long run)

  • My goal is a sub 3:40 marathon. While I’d love to get that BQ in Eugene, I think sub 3:40 is a very realistic goal for me. During my last 3 half marathons when I’ve been going up hill or just feeling a bit sluggish, 8:20 pace has been my default for those times (which would be my goal pace during the marathon). Which is why I’ve settled on that time goal.

  • I’ll have 2-3 workouts a week and run 6 days a week (mainly easy miles) with some speed/ strength/ and tempo work thrown in there.

  • I want to run a half marathon 4-5 weeks out from Eugene (although not sure on what half yet)!
